I'm thinking maybe this whole Greenland deal is really about rare earth elements.

The US needs mining and processing facilities as soon as possible.

If you build them in the US, you're subject to EPA regulations and state laws.

Likewise, you can't just make Greenland part of the United States, or it would be subject to the same laws. That was never the real plan.

Instead, you create some sort of Guantanamo-style lease that excludes Danish and Greenlandic environmental laws, and force it on Denmark and Greenland.
